How To Make Basically Free Online Volunteer Training Videos

A lot of ministries can't afford TrainedUp, Ministry Grid, or Kajabi.

Plus, most ministries do not have a videographer to shoot and edit if they could.

However, hosting your volunteer training videos is essential to creating a scalable training system for your ministry.

In this week's newsletter, we want to share with you how to make and host online volunteer training courses almost entirely for free.

Here's a step-by-step how-to guide:

Step 1: Craft A Keynote Presentation

Before diving into video production, it's essential to organize your training content. Start by outlining the key points you want to cover and creating a comprehensive keynote presentation using software like Google Slides or Microsoft PowerPoint. Make sure your presentation is clear, concise, and something you want to keep using in your ministry for a few years. No one likes to re-shoot training every summer.

Step 2: Use Loom To Record & YouTube To Host

Loom is a fantastic tool for recording your screen and webcam simultaneously, making it perfect for creating training videos. Once your keynote presentation is ready, open Loom and begin recording yourself as you walk through the slides and explain each point.

PS - This is the only piece of this that costs money! And it's pretty cheap.

After recording your training session in Loom, you can directly upload the video to YouTube. Simply sign in to your YouTube account, upload your video, add a title, description, and relevant tags, and set the privacy settings according to your preferences. You will embed this video into step four.

Step 3: Embed Into Google Forms & Make A Quiz

Google Forms is an excellent tool for creating interactive content, including quizzes and surveys. To incorporate your training video into a Google Form, create a new form and select the option to add a video. Paste the YouTube link of your training video into the designated field, and Google Forms will embed the video directly into the form.

To ensure that your volunteers are engaging with the training material, consider adding a quiz or assessment to the Google Form. Create multiple-choice or short-answer questions based on the content covered in the training video. This allows you to gauge volunteers' understanding and retention of the material effectively.

Once your Google Form is complete, please share the link with your volunteers via email, ClearStream, or a Planning Center email and ask your volunteers to watch & complete it.

Just like that, you've created online training videos for your volunteers to be equipped with.

And guess what?

You didn't waste a ton of money on some expensive system.

And you recorded it with your laptop.

It's simple.

It's scalable.

It's strategic.

I hope this helps! ⚡️
